Spring Cleaning {Day 2}

Cleaning the hidden places in your home is just as crucial as cleaning the surfaces. There is a sense of relief when you know the corners of your home are clean and organized. Here’s our list of all the places you may forget to clean during a regular spring cleaning.

DEEP CLEAN CLOSETS AND DRAWERS — We suggest a total deep clean in your closets and drawers. It’s refreshing to eliminate things you don’t use and will never use again and also to get dust cleaned up from these tight spaces. When deep cleaning your closets and drawers, we suggest pulling everything out and going through your stuff one by one. If it’s in your closet, toss clothes you haven’t worn in a year. If it’s in your drawer, clean out the dust and debris with a vacuum, scrub down, and reorganize the drawer.

WASHING MACHINE — Clean out a smelly machine with distilled white vinegar and baking soda to keep it fresh. Use hot water, add the vinegar and baking soda mix, and let it sit for 30-60 minutes. Restart your machine, let it drain, and wipe it dry.

WINDOWS — When washing your windows don’t just wash the inside, be sure to wash outside. This will get any smudges, dirt, and dust off of your glass. We suggest washing your windows on a cloudy day so the sun doesn’t dry the cleanser before you’re done wiping.

CLEAR DRAINS — First, unclog your drains with either the help of a plumber or your can snake it out yourself. We also suggest to freshen up your drain. Mix 1/2 cup baking soda with 1/4 cup salt. Pour this mixture down the drain followed by 1 cup of hot vinegar. Let it foam and bubble for 15 minutes. Rinse with hot water for 15-30 seconds.

CLEAR VENTS — Don’t sit in a house with a dirty vent. First step, change out your filter! This should be done more than once a year, check it regularly to see how fast your filter gets dirty. Of course you can only do so much without a professional coming in. We also suggest using your vacuum attachment with soft bristles to keep these areas clean.

BONUS — How many times a year do you get your carpet cleaned? We suggest between once or twice a year for lower traffic areas. If you have a higher-traffic area we suggest three times a year, however, it does depend upon how highly used a certain area is.
